ECP TherapyWhat is ECP Therapy? For people with angina or heart failure, even simple activities - such as going to the mailbox or walking the dog - can be challenging. Symptoms such as fatigue, low energy levels, or shortness of breath with minimal exertion could be due to early "anginal syndrome" or heart failure. If you are one of these people, take heart. We provide a non-invasive treatment called ECP therapy that clinical experience has shown to be safe and effective for the treatment of angina and heart failure. This form of therapy is thought to improve blood flow to the heart muscle, allowing for overall improvement in the function of the heart. More than 90% of patients who have completed the 35-hour course of ECP therapy at our center, experienced significant symptom relief that has lasted up to 21/2 to 3 years. Some patients with severe heart failure may require annual treatments. ECP therapy is a well established outpatient treatment for angina and heart failure. Many individuals, who have been told that they need angioplasty or bypass surgery, have opted for ECP therapy instead with good results. Treatments are usually given for an hour each day, five days a week, for a total of 35 hours. During the treatment, you lie on a comfortable treatment table, reading or watching a movie on DVD, while large blood pressure-like cuffs wrapped around your legs and buttocks inflate and deflate at specific times between your heartbeats. If you, a loved one or friend have symptoms due to heart disease, find out if you or they are candidates for ECP therapy. |
